FANA is one of the eight institutions authorized to develop the adoption program in Colombia. The license is issued by the National Direction, Branch of Adoptions, and the latter exercises permanent supervision and control of the program. The adoption program was developed in FANA according to the "Technical Guideline for adoptions in Colombia", Resolution No. 3748 dated September 6, 2010.

Requirements for adoption:

The Childhood and Adolescence Code, Act 1098 of 2006 explains that "all those being able, being at least 25 years old, are at the least 15 years older than the adoptable child, and ensure physical, mental, moral and social fitness enough to provide an adequate and stable family to the boy, girl or adolescent, shall be able to adopt. APPLICANTS AND CHILDREN AGE RANGES

With the goal of having families for all children who lack it and to give priority to the Colombian family as required by law, the ICBF has defined an age range for the family in accordance with the age of the child to be adopted.

In the case of children with special needs, that is, over 8 years, 3 or more siblings and medical problems, the age of the family is not taken into account for the assignment, but the family is studied globally, taking into consideration that they can assume a child or teenager of these features being their guarantor of rights.

Because FANA is a non-profit foundation and in virtue that resources are limited, the process is performed using external professionals and therefore each activity has a cost.

This initiative is part of the adoption program and through it, FANA helps find families for children with special characteristics, over 8 years old, groups of three or more siblings or disabled. Children are taken to Buffalo (in the State of New York) and to Minneapolis-St Paul (in the State of Minnesota) in the United States, where they live with their potential family during three weeks. The experience provides a link between children and families interested in adopting older children, and it helps to strengthen their life project. Since the program began in 2008, 48 children have participated, of which 42 have found a family
